Goodbye

Esther Phillips' track 'Home is Where The Hatred Is', penned by Gil Scott Heron, is honeslty one of my all time favourite tracks (no I'm neither a Junkie nor a home hater), her voice carries the real pain of knowing what its like to be a heroin addict and the song is just a fantastic soul number at the same time. Esther's voice is incredible, just incredible, ain't no Christina or Britney ever gonna sound this real, this unique. If u don't know the track hunt it down, it was released on Kudu Records in 1971 (or beg me i might put it up for ya'll). Anyway I recently got my hands on a very nice compilation of latin tinged Jazz beats from the 60's through to the 80's out on Spanish label Hi Top called 'Jazz Travels Compiled by Casbah 73'. It includes another gem by Esther called 'Just Say Goodbye', a seemingly fitting track in my life right now as i just kinda fell out of a ten and a half year relationship. Esther died in 1984, thanks to a liver that packed it in. Honestly this woman is seriously one of the most talented vocalists ever to grace our planet. Check it out. I'll get back to more contemporary electronica etc in the coming days!
