Remembering Detroit

Moodyman cuts up Alif Tree's downtempo classic 'Forgotten Places', turning it into a clever and touching tale of a neglected Detroit. He name checks suburbs, streets and people of the city's past, even calling out 'Buy Rite Records', the store where Rick Whilite and himself used to work. Most of these places are gone apparently and indeed are now forgotten. The haunting female voice is Shirley Horn's, it sits beautifully into this double bass driven simultaneously modern and vintage jazz track. Of course Moodyman is known to be extremely picky about taking on remixes and comes up with a truly wonderful bit of work on this 2006 Compost release.
