Morgan Geist's first album 'The Driving Memories' remains, to this day, a beautiful journey into motor city Soul & Techno; it's full of subtlety, warm lush pads, deeply considered spaces, mechanical detail, simple yet arresting melodies and careful homages to Detroit innovators, while adding his own style to this unique musical form. Geist becomes more complex, with later releases, digging up Disco, Hip Hop & Jazz and filtering them through his particular microscopic machine age vision, but here on his debut LP, he resolves to create a timeless, soulful, somewhat introspective and percolated jewel of motor city sound. It sounds fantastic on a long journey, which is no coincidence.
