Patti Jo Cut Up
I first was introduced to the original of this track through that brilliant, and perhaps landmark, Gilles Peterson/ Norman Jay 'Journeys By DJ's : Desert Island Mix' double CD. Patti Jo's 'Make Me Believe in You' featured on the Norman Jay disc, more recently it featured again on 'OST/Original Block Party Edits', re-edited by Black Science Orchestra and Phil Asher. I'm not sure which A&R man told the boys at EMI (yeah that's EMI) that edits were/are a bit of a thing, though in actual fact it's really a compilation of the label Original Soundtrack Recordings (owned by EMI) who put out a number of 12"s with edits by Harvey, BSO, even Norman Cook, amongst others, around the late 90's. Their releases included that much sought after Fug edit of Minnie Ripperton's "Les Fleur' and an awesome Fat Camp (Bill Brewster & Paul Noble) take of Wood Steel & Brass' 'Funkanova' (a track BSO ripped almost outright for one of their own tracks). Anyway BSO & Asher do a good job of extending this classic and though it doesn't contain much of their signature sound on it, it's still a great edit.
