White Magic

Being touted as album of the year so far, Sorcerer's 'White Magic' is out and white magic it is. It takes a damn fine producer to create a classic album of Balearica in these apparently Balearic times; one which will be loved long past the current interest in obvious white island sounds; one which wont simply get stranded on any island either, 'White Magic' is that album. Sorcerer channels Chris Rea, Andreas Vollenwieder (a bit), Sky, Steve Reich, Tangerine Dream even Eno and more, but in the mix, these guys come up with their own clean & crisp, deep & beautiful, largely electronic, blissful journey. It's no retro affair. Of course there is that guitar, though not on every track; white, serene, curly languid licks of it, instantly evoking the past, a kind of 80's dream of the future. But there's more to 'White Magic' than a clever reworking of other peoples ideas and shiny, new, car guitars, this is a layered modern electronic work of substance, thick with emotive original hooks. Available on label of labels Tirk, 'White Magic' must be owned. I haven't got a favourite from the album yet, and since you are going to buy it, you can decide on your own...
