I Heard The Voice Of Music

Sunbear's 'I Heard The Voice Of Music' featured on their only album released in 1977, it went on to become a minor classic and is one of those sought after items, especially for Jazz Funk fans & hunters. Their track 'Fantasy' was popularised by The Whispers a little while later. There are a ton of very talented players on this album; Ernie Watts on flute & trumpet (Love Unlimited Orchestra), Arnie "Sun" Oliver (founding member of Sunbear and later a part of Maze), Werner "Bear" Schuchner (also a founding member) went on to play guitar for any number of worthy outfits, Carrie Lucas did backing vocals, Greg Phillinganes (keyboardist on The Jackson's 'Heartbreak Hotel' & one time member of Toto), along with many others. There is indeed an expensive big band funk feel to this and other tracks on the album, but also a sweet edged tenderness and harmony which isn't often heard from a band this big. Definately an album which is worth hunting down, grab it if you see it...
