The Art of Digging
Here's something really really special, an unreleased track by one Coffee Garner, a Swiss born, Berlin resident who is known in deep collecting circles as a hunter par excellence, he has supplied rare finds to, amongst others, Meshell Ndegeocello, David Holmes, Kon+ Amir, Alex + Claas from Jazzanova, Antal from Kindred Spirits, Dj Loud e, Tako & Lenny Ibizarre. Mr Coffee has dj'ed for the best; including Lonnie Liston Smith, Bobby Womack, Gil Scott Heron & Tania Maria as well as holding down a residency on Formentera. You'll agree that's quiet a resume, but more than these things he is also a producer; here is a magical gem from the man's unreleased album 'Whirlpool'. When I heard the album recently, I have to say, I instantly fell in love with it's deep deep Jazz & Soul heart, it's modern beats and arresting beauty. The thing is Coffee is sampling stuff most of us would never have seen or heard before, which makes it pretty special. 'Sylv' is stunning downbeat stuff, midway in, the track breaks down into a bit I have actually heard before from a track which obviously sampled the same source (Taurus' - Together on Vikter Duplaix's Dj Kicks compilation utilizes the same original), but I really did think that beautiful deep house number was indeed all original work, until i heard this of course. Coffee Garner is contributing a mix to the Press Play series, which i suspect will be a beautiful education for me and perhaps you too, but in the meantime check out this item, which until now has not graced any blog's near you. Thank you sir for the pleasure of sharing this with us..
