Beats from Brazil

Back in 2004 'Bambas & Biritas volume 1' by Bid (heavyweight Brazilian producer Eduardo Bidlovski) was one of my favorite albums of the year. Beleza put it out through their deal with Ether Music (one of Giles P's many release factory's) and it's a great combination of modern Brazilian sounds mixed up with some, I want to say trip hop but the term is too dated and doesn't quiet hit it, downtempo maybe, soundtracky even, but mostly just beautiful, tropical & urban. Eduardo has done remixing and production on a great number of Brazil's big names since the 80's but here on his solo album he interprets a long history of samba kings smoking and drinking in cafe's making music, infact the album title translates as 'Splif & Booze'. U get the smokey jazzy 'Mandingueira' featuring the excellent vocals of Elza Soares.

As a bonus track on the theme of Brazilian brilliance, u get the stone cold classic 'Oba, La Vem Ela' from Jorge Benjor, actually it doesn't get any better than this and if you're not stirred to the very depths of your soul by this number then u have no soul and are probably deaf.
