black island

Generic Island is an edits label coming out of France, their output ranges from Deep House to Disco re-workings of things like Persia's 'Inch by Inch', 'Bourgie Bourgie' & Two Tons of Fun. I haven't heard all of them to be honest and got a copy of the third volume purely by chance as it was send to me as part of an order (even though I didn't order it, in fact I didn't even know about it), perhaps the shop guy thought I'd like it. Well as it turns out I do. I couldn't spot all the tracks (4 of 'em) original sources; one is Yello's 'Bostich', two of the other's I should know as they have really familiar bits in them and the fourth doesn't compute at all, it's the one I like the most right this minute. Simply titled 'Black', it's spacey, odd, Disco and has an obscure but brilliant vocodered vocal...

Unknown Artist - Black
Edit: Thanks to the ANOE reader who spotted the track as Black Devil's 'One To Choose' which can be found on their 1978 'Disco Club' album. One I don't have and have only heard a few tracks off, it is, of course absolutely essential to any good Cosmic Disco collection. Some of the tunes are so modern, even now, it was thought for awhile that they were the secret name of a well known current producer. B.D.D.C. did make a very convincing comeback in 2006 after Reflex re-issued part of the original album.
