tune!!

Sticking with non-western tunes for the minute, this is one of the most exciting releases of the year for me without a doubt. Honest Jon's uncovered an unbelievable gem with Steel An' Skin; a bunch of 'night club' musicians from all over (Nigeria, Ghana, Trinidad, UK) who hung out and made magic in Ladbroke Grove in the 70's. Both sides of 'Afro Punk Reggae (Dub)'/'Reggae is Here Once Again' are just ridiculously fine, a 1979 release that removes the competition in 2008, with ease. 'Afro Punk Reggae (Dub)' sounds so current, with it's deep ESG, Liquid Liquid, dubby, complex and irresistibly dance inducing vibe. If any of that sounds remotely like something you might like and you haven't heard it then find it at once, seriously. The flip side, 'Reggae is Here Once Again' is Dub Disco of the highest order, it's catchy as all hell, warm, genuine and timeless. This has to be the true anthem of the year, resistance is futile. Music for life!! (the mp3 doesnt do it justice)

Steel 'n Skin - Reggae Is Here Once Again

edit: i've just seen over at Dilated Choonz - Kevvy K posted the flip side of this, so now u can check both sides and read Kev's far more researched post... go now!!
