an example of greatness
As the edit scene continues to go over the top with record store shelves buckling under the weight of all the related 'new' releases, I think it is important to remember a few things. We've seen it all before with countless sub genres on the dance scene or any scene for that matter - things will go overground, and while it looks as if edits may eat themselves, quality is the reason to invest money in any form of music, simply ignore the rubbish. There is an undeniable DIY aspect to it, isn't there? A 'go out and make your own' message to them, just like dj'ing or Garage bands or whatever. Also while journos and even fans will quickly grow tired (as they must or will, respectively) of what no longer seems to be their 'discovery' or their music, good people will continue to make good music (or edits in this case). House music never died, indeed Disco never faded away, not Rock, nor Hip Hop, not even Broken Beats, it's all there still as some continue to push and pull at weak definitions and create great music of all kinds. The hype/ anti hype will die down. Perhaps I'm saying this all simply to remind myself, but most often I'm reminded by the edits, the good ones and the great ones. Lastly it's worth mentioning (though i think I've said this before) that I'm not hung up on the idea of edits in themselves, it's music I'm hung up on. For example....
Santana - Bahia (John Daly Edit)
u can get a few more of John's excellent edits over at Double Wide Edits, they don't come in too often but he never dissapoints...
