rumours

Until a little while ago I had never heard this particular track, now it sits around the top of my most wanted list. Recent Press Play guest Kelvin Brown id'ed the track for me after I heard it in one of his really excellent mixes. Finding Christy Essien Igbokwe's 1980 Blo produced album (they are also the backing band) 'Give Me A Chance' wasn't as hard as i thought it would be, though it's rare as hens teeth (Discogs had one for awhile, it's popped up on ebay and a few other places) but so far the cost has been prohibitive, usually hitting the $300 mark. The album contains two fantastic Afro Disco items, one of which is 'Rumours', the aforementioned must have. I have managed to procure a recording of the album and wanted to share this gem with you...

Ez Chris,

Glad you managed to get hold of the track. For those that don't know the rest of the LP, 'Nobody Can Stop Us' is also great (on a Patrick Adams tip).

The 'One Understanding' LP also has a couple of good disco funk tracks featuring the great Gerlado Pino (although I dont think it's really worth the money you sometimes see it going for), and the 'Ever Liked my Person' LP has a nice 70's soul cut on it.

Peace... Kelvin

I sold this LP on ebay last year for about 80 euro... it's not THAT rare, it's just generally hard to obtain vinyl from Nigeria but the music market there is/was huge so they may have printed thousands of copies of her albums.
