Lightspeed Recordings
With the vinyl market shrinking (and growing in other obscure places) daily, many labels and artists are obviously sticking to digital only releases. I still struggle with the idea of 'owning' an mp3 or wav, but this year I finally got off of my 'strictly vinyl' in clubs point of view. I'm not at the 'going laptop' stage and am not likely to ever get there either (can check email at home), but playing out good quality wav's off CD seems fine, if not for the ability to tap into the vast (read as infinite) world of digital only releases, edits etc.
LightSpeed Recordings have in the last year, put out 3 digital releases with tracks from Late Nite Tuff Guy, DJ Agent '86 and more recently Bodie Lee, all of which are worth a look in. Bodie Lee's 'Go Chic Lightening' EP is the one I keep coming back to when looking to drop something that's great fun, a little bit Euro Disco, well cheeky and a guaranteed floor rocker. There are remixes from Faze Action, Rudy's Midnight Machine (my favourite) & Ajello on it, plus the three original's from Bodie. Pulsating, wobbly, hypnotic, tasty Disco party tunes.. check 'em out here (if you havent already) and grab the one they gave us below...

Djing is like surfing...
One may be bodyboard world champion. But once you stand up on a surfboard, you will never lay down again!
I started djing with a laptop, but since I put my hands on a turntable... It ended there.
If you want it simple, if you want it light or easy choose something else.
And if you have doubts listen to Theo Parris http://www.redbullmusicacademy.com/video-archive/lectures/theo_parrish__3_cheers_for_the_d
Merry Christmas from Portugal
being a dj from chicago with over 10 years behind the decks I wish I could still play vinyl. The amount of an import record runs about 14 dollars, and the amount of clubs over here with working 1200's are very scarce. So i turn to my trusty macbook which has rocked crowds just the same
thanks for the comments fella's. always interested in how other dj's see it...
chris - nice to read your posts as usual. Also nice to see you hosting music from a local melbourne label - nigel (86) is a very talented and extremely polite and friendly DJ! I've had the pleasure of playing after him lots of times.
I agree with you about records - they give what djs do a certain individual style - the music equipment should not just be a means to an end - i think records and turntables give you creative obstacles to work around - and my performances benefit from these restrictions.
Im using serato for the first time as i'm travelling overseas (in hungary) then going to red bull in london. But im buying lots of records as i go - already found to amazing prog/psych stuff in Hungary.
Ill do an edit for you soon!
