Press Play #11 : Red Rack'em

I've been promising new mixes in the Press Play series for awhile now, well here is the first of three new ones I have for you. Red Rack'em has graced these pages before, his 'Disco Jaded' mix has been very popular and for good reason - it's really good, along with his edit of Lakeside's 'Fantastic Voyage'. Nottingham's finest soul Pirate is a master of many styles and has the rare ability to mix em all up if he chooses to, his Smugglers Inn radio show (Wednesday nights 6-9 pm) & podcast are an essential listen for keeping up to date on things of a re-edit, Disco, deep Hip Hop, Soul, Funk, Techno, Broken Beat, Cosmic, & Detroit House nature (and then some). I can't recommend this show more for both it's diversity and it's quality.

Danny worked hard in 2007 having played alongside Modeselektor in Budapest, Flying Lotus, Benga, Amp Fiddler, Fat Freddys Drop, Quantic, Dwele, amongst others, but it's the release of his Hot Coins EP (coming up in Feb/March) that is what I (and many others) are very excited about. Society Recordings will be dropping the 'Laissez Faire' EP, a collection of 4 original tracks. Yup the re-edit master once again pushes things to the next level, by delivering these unique groovers, keep your eyes peeled for this release, it's an essential buy (I'll drop u a reminder when it comes out).

Well the mix is just brilliant, I have really enjoyed it a lot, it's kind of Cosmic, with a bit of Skwee, a bit of wonky Disco, some slowed down bits (check that FGTH re-edit at slow blow shuffle tempo), a ton of undefinable cool brilliance (watchout for the Monks track - pure genius) and Danny's fantastic skills on the decks. As always I'm delighted to be able to hand this over to u readers; another top class Press Play from one of the planets serious & passionate talents.
