hippies come to soweto

Mahlathini & The Mahotella Queens (aka Mahlathini Nezintombi Zomgqashiyo or Mahlathini and the Girls of Mgqashiyo) are a South African band who've been around since the mid 60's, many line up changes have occurred since then. Here in SA, their harmonic voices & Mbaqanga beats are much loved, though foreigners will know them better as having featured on the Art of Noise hit 'Yebo' and Paul Simon's 'Graceland'.

Canadian man on the rise, Andrew Allsgood, has leant his editing skillz to what sounds like a 70's track of theirs, the title for which roughly translates as 'Hippies Come To Soweto'. It fits very nicely into the current Afro Dub Disco climate that seems to have gripped Another Night On Earth just lately. Plus, my fellow blog harvesters, it's an exclusive!!! Sweet Summer Weekend Beats Alert!!
