loosing you

I found this fantastic refix of the really excellent '(I Know) I'm Loosing You' by Rare Earth up on Soundcloud the other day. Vatican City's Pied Piper expands and explodes the original, it's an on fire beardy stomper which really brings the heat in an otherwise edit heavy environment. The man has a blog & soundcloud page which have lots of good things to listen to, he really knows his onions. Check him out if you haven't already and give this amazing tune a spin...

redhead

I've never been a huge fan of Abba, which for a Discohead is probably akin to sacrilege. I feel the same way about many of those other iconic 70's cheese 'n chart fests. But there is a track by Frida which gets me every time (not that its Disco); 'I See Red' was a single off her 1982 album 'Something's Going On', the one with that really horrid pencil drawing of her on the cover. I rediscovered it a couple of years ago and to be honest, there isn't a weekend that goes by when I don't play it. It sounds like it could do with a hearty beardy edit, but in fact it's more Cole Medina than his first big edit. OK, I'm exaggerating, but i love it and it's sounds fresher today than it did then... damn that's one of my secret weapons done!

memories of spring

Not much seems to be known about Robert Hall Productions, his albums carry very little information and it seems they're all called 'Production Music'. I haven't been lucky enough to cross paths with one of these strange and beautiful Library LP's... yet, but of course on the internet these days, you'll find nearly anything. If you're hunting for cool samples, you wont find much better across a range of possible musical variants originally designed for tv and film. Check out 'Memories Of Spring' for sublime Psyche Folk, though it's criminally short....

digital deviance

Disco Deviance are about to launch their 'Digital Deviance' CD series. 'Volume 1' contains 6 tracks from their series of outstanding 12"s, plus 4 unreleased tracks from Pete Herbert, Greg Wilson, Fat Camp & Eddie Tour. It also looks great!! The CD is going to save a lot of dj's from having to rip 'n burn (with potentially dubious results), the previously vinyl only releases, and of course it will give those dj's who didnt grab them in the first place, a chance to get them now. The 4 extra tracks are in the same class as any of their previous work for the label, but the Fat Camp Edit 'You Can Get Off On The Music' is unmissable; Brewster and Noble always bring that DJ flava to their edits, with sound drop outs, refreshed breaks and classic cuts. Love it, love it loads! Check it below and go buy one... (this coming week I think)

Fox's garden

I've got some hot new promo's that need posting up here, but before I get there I've been given the chance to share another, more recent, track from Oz based wunderkind Andras Fox. Seriously, the man has talent, he's got an ear (maybe even two) for what works, he cut's em up with dare I say panache (is that a very dated concept?). Andras Fox, along with a troupe of Toulouse geese (residents of Caulfield Park) do a soft hop shuffle on a lil' Minnie Ripperton. Minnie Ripperton is incomparable the way I see it; there are many insanely detailed and brilliant tracks by her, no not 'Loving You', more like most of 'Come To My Garden', like 'Inside My Love', or 'Close Your Eyes and Remember'. Check out Fox's all too short but very sweet refix...

Pollyn Simon

I got a lovely mail from Adam from Pollyn who linked me to their recent ep 'Gave This Little Out Of Place' EP which features 3 original tracks plus remixes from Peter Visti, In Flagranti and Time & Space Machine, along with an edit they'd done of Paul Simon's '50 Ways To Leave Your Lover'. The Ep is pretty interesting with each of these heavyweight remixers adding to this LA collective's Electronic Pop sounds, in exactly the ways you'd imagine; Visti turns them into Balearic dreamers, Time & Space add psyche echoes & trippy atmosphere's, while In Flagranti get their choppers out to slice 'n dice their track 'Falling Out Of Place' into a disco friendly groover. Apparently Pollyn have remixed a bunch of people including Liquid Liquid & Gorillaz. It's the edit I love though; having chopped out the more uptempo parts of the track, added some great instrumentation and dubbed out some of the parts, Pollyn have made an excellent refreshed version. Lovely late night 'unlove' grooves...

lost edit - belvaros

Australian digger, DJ & Producer Andras Fox featured on a.n.o.e. a couple of times back in 2007, his rework of Sylvester's 'Over & Over' was very popular, as was his track 'Three Girls'. At the time Fox send me quiet a few tracks which I never shared, many of which I still enjoy. Andras recently completed the Red Bull Music Academy and is always working on new projects. You can check some of the results out here. How about this bumpin', Moodyman-esque beauty called 'Belvaros' ? As with the previous 'lost' edits, this has not been released... Loving it! still!

lost edit - rain

Here's another of those 'lost' edits... Back in 2007, island hoppers Joe Mojo & PhDJ Eugene dropped a.n.o.e. a refix of a Barry Manilow track from his 'One Voice' album, a surprisingly delicious midtempo beardy track which has brought me much joy over the last years. It's the kind of edit which makes something great out of a pile of poo, or at least one which spots the groove in a very unlikely source (I havent heard the original but suspect it's got lots of nasty bits). Anyway, still loving this...

arc of one

Somewhere in Portugal, Pedro Serapicos and a few of his friends make up Off The Record Dj's, a crew who are dedicated to digging and playing a range of current and antique sounds of quality. They asked me for a mix. Normally it would take me years to get round to it (read as easily sidetracked), but for reasons beyond me I wrapped it up pretty quickly. It has a bunch of thing's I've been playing a lot lately at home and quiet a few tracks I've been wanting to drop into a mix for ages. go check it out and have a listen if you like...  Thanks guys!

Roberto Auser - Secret Carnival

So have you checked out the Roberto Auser album, just out on Bearfunk? 'Secret Carnival' is a double CD, 'concept' album of substantial proportions; frankly it's a wet dream made real for me (is that a bit wrong?). With moments of serene, exquisite coma drifting, not unlike the best of Harold Bud or Eno, except spacier, interspersed with digital tropicalia, off-world atmo-scapes, deeply fried Techno sequences, Cosmic Disco warbles and loads of mind altering synth mastery, this album is exactly the sort of thing many of us go digging for in crates, only it's modern and very well produced and very very good.

Roberto is from the Netherlands, his tracks have previously featured on Nature Records, as well as a standout item on Innervisions' 'Secret Weapons' project. He also recently released an excellent collaboration with Alden Tyrell on Bearfunk called 'Blondes & Brunettes'. 'Secret Carnival' is, however, an artist's album; it's obsessive, visionary, individual and prolific. It also has a bunch of kick ass, leftfield club moments. I'm thinking, like Bottin, Auser is one of the new school and heading for bigger things. Essential buy!!!

re up

Just a quick note: It was pointed out to me today that some of the mixes haven't been downloading. I re-upped the Juju & Jordash Press Play, this afternoon, so definitely check that out if you couldn't before and also do let me know if you're having trouble with any of the others. thanks c

i found you

I would love to own a copy of the original Candy Bowman 'I Wanna Feel Your Love' 12" on RCA, it's become a bit of a collectors item and is therefore fairly pricey. The absolutely stunning Soul Boogie b-side 'Since I Found You'  has featured on a few cd & vinyl compilations, which is how I come to have it. The A side, is delicious too, but 'Since I Found You' is golden. Late night city lovin'!
