New York City Jacks
Redux have recently had their look updated and they continue to release some of the finest club tracks of recent years. NY's Drrrtyhaze are the latest to feature, with an old school Electro jam called 'New York City Jacks'; I've been playing it and the brilliant Popular Peoples Front Remix out a lot lately and can report they work wonders on up for it dancers. The original is mean and clean, does what it says on the tin and revives a tough, warehouse filled, edgy New York of the early 80's. The Popular Peoples Front Remix is something else altogether (allowing you to play both versions in the same set if you like), it's very underground, actually it's pretty hard to describe, so you get a download below, it's a monster. On the flip side is another new track from the Haze; 'Make My Body Hot' is a lovely Funk Disco House Jam with very tasty Herb Alpert'esque trumpets and a chorus of sexy girl vocals, not unlike a Crazy P track with an NY edge. Check the stores for this (start here maybe) and keep supporting Redux. If you're a fan, or dig the sound, you can also grab a top class mix from Drrtyhaze done for Redux, right here.>Drrtyhaze - New York City Jacks (Popular Peoples Front Remix)

safari room
Somewhere between Altz and Rondenion, you'll find Atsushi Yano, a Japanese producer who favours Afro & Jazz source material over the more Disco friendly stuff produced by the aforementioned references. Similarly, however, he has that minor keys and loop love, Moodyman feel of Rondenion's work along with some of Altz's quirk. There is practically no information to be found about this guy on the internet, except for some mentions of his fantastic 'Polyrhythm' EP on Nang Records (sister label to Tirk), which has been out since August. It seems to me that this release never got as much attention as it perhaps should have; the four tracks are deliciously left field, but they also jack like old school ny house bombs. I suspect you'll find these work well as secret weapons, since more mainstream dj's will have quickly passed over them. Hunt it down and in the meantime check out 'Room Safari' from the EP below... lots coming up this week, so check back..

Domu done and dusted pt2.
I've been pulling Domu vinyl when I see 'em on the shelves just lately, revisiting his tracks since the recent news of his quitting the scene. While there are loads of items he's worked on that I love to bits, a possible list of his best or my favourites would have to include 'The Boss' from his brilliant Discotech EP, his remix of 12th Floor's 'Get Down' on Raw Fusion, 'Worldwide' on Loungin' Recordings, His remix of Simon Grey's 'Galactic Suite' on Papa and his Disco Dub of 'Somethin' Better' from Maddslinky amongst others. This stuff is going to circulate for years probably, inevitably though, some of his material will fall off the radar and be charged with time spend collecting dust, hopefully to be rediscovered later down the line. That said, the nature of crate digging is changing, so I can't say how that will work. So here is another of his recent edit's for listening purposes; a sweet future boogie blowout with gospel overtones, simply called 'Love Vibe'. Anyone know the original? Killer!

ancient astronauts
Quiet recently, I posted a link to a Kool DJ Dust mix which I thought pretty good, but failed to mention that he also has a new single out on FEED Records. 'Ancient Astronauts' is a superb and very authentic sounding Cosmo Space Disco mid tempo groover, without ever bubbling over, this low pitched evolving beauty has crept right into a very short list of current favourites. The EP also contains mixes from the intriguing Name In Lights and Erik Wikstrom (of Jackpot fame) and a second track called 'Human Beings' (all very fine). Sadly I can't give you the track, so it's one of those 'listen only' items (you dont mind these do you?), but if you head on over to the FEED Records site, you'll find their first release (from Wikstrom) is now available for free and there is a bloody excellent mix from Name In Lights called 'Land of Dreams'... check it and check out Dust's very lovely 'Ancient Astronuats' below...

Arthur Russell lives on... plus Yam Who? mix and Pocketknife track...
I'm pretty psyched about this post, not only because you get a phat 320k track download and a mix from the god's (aka Yam Who?) but because at the core of these projects is Arthur Russell, a man who's life and music continues to inspire many forward thinking individuals everywhere, a man who's dubbed out Disco continues to set discerning dance floors alight.
Electric Minds (responsible for the killer Afrobutt album amongst other modern classics) are releasing 'Go Bang!: A Tribute To Arthur Russell', you should already know about this from their recent sampler 12" release, but inccase you didn't... It's a top class collection of re-cuts, remixes, cover versions of, and even entirely new tracks with key elements from, Arthur's timeless classics by a stellar bunch of artists (see here for more details). Yes of course some will tell you it's almost blasphemous to mess around with those brilliant originals, but then again the results are marvelous. So to launch this heavy weight, Electric Minds have hooked up with the very clever Lovebox to create what sounds like a real London night to remember on the 27 of this month. The line up is ridiculous; there is a Screening of Matt Wolf’s brilliant “Wild Combination” which will be introduced by Tim Lawrence and a reading from his new Arthur Russell biography, there are live performances from Killer Whale and My Tiger My Timing, and as far as dj's go, there's Maurice Fulton, Yam Who?, Faze Action, Dolan Bergin, Tom Findlay (of Groove Armada), Max Essa, Severino (from Horse Meat Disco), Stuart Patterson, The Cosmic Truth and Bill Brewster amongst others. Yowza! If you live in London get your tickets here (and report back here after with lengthy descriptions). Support this release people...
To promote the album and the party, Electric Minds have given a.n.o.e. a head start (read as you'll find it elsewhere, but not yet) with a rather superior related mix by Yam Who? I have long been a fan of the Yam's (Andy Williams & Des Morgan), since the early 2000's they've been reworking, remixing and producing some of the very finest music around, some of my all time favourites are by them. So u can imagine how thrilled I am to have em drop by here. Check out the track listing below and grab it to go...

get a room
Small Time Cuts return with a new release from Get A Room! (who are French duo The Rove Dogs plus Jeff Lasson), it's pretty limited (500 copies worldwide) and it's available in all good stores now. This is a seriously hot piece of wax with three exceptional edits on it, edits made for left field dancers and lovers of Cosmo Electro sounds. 'The Dreamer', a peak time Ennio Morricone edit, is already getting a lot of attention and deservedly so, 'The Valery Stop' adds all kinds of heavy drum action onto a slice 'n dice of Valery Allington's classic 'Stop' (which is soo fine), and then there is 'Under The Vice', a slo mo bruiser made from Topo and Roby's big 80's club track which is my current favourite. With props from Trevor Jackson for starters, you know we're talking about something that's worth checking out... it's worth buying too.

Domu done and dusted.. pt1.
I discovered yesterday that one of my favourite producers (certainly of the last decade) has decided to quit the dirty business of making and selling music. Dominic Stanton aka Domu has pulled the plug on his various aliases and connections to the industry, including, I might add his facebook page, myspace, blog and other social networking sites. Pop on over here, to read about his reasons for doing it. If you've been reading his blog, then you may have seen it coming, nevertheless it's pretty shite news for his fans and I for one have thought his recent productions have seen him reclaim his position in this changeing market. He'll be sorely missed. I have a lot of thoughts about this turn of events, but I think most importantly it's about his choice and we should support him with it.
The odd part to this information is it comes just weeks after I chatted with the man after hearing an edit he'd done on Red Rack'ems radio show. Dominic then gave me a handful more of lovely edits he'd been working on and added that I could stream (a few of) them here on a.n.o.e. He'd also mentioned that some of the tracks might soon be available on KAT Records but I'm thinking that this now seems unlikely. So over the next week or so, I'll be sticking up a few of the above mentioned goodies for your listening pleasure.
This first edit is a fine rework of the same track that Erot used a part of to create his famous 'Song For Annie' (not the one that samples Curtis Mayfield, the other genius one); it's a brilliant slice of Disco edged Jazz and for the life of me I cant remember who it's by (The Crusaders - thanks Dave) ... until i remember here's Dominic's re-cut...

bonar brothers on the slide
It's been a crazy couple of weeks and as a result it's been real slow here at a.n.o.e. Fear not, good music is on it's way...
Bonar Bradberry of PBR Streetgang (yeah they who appeared on the Press Play series a short while back) has been sharing a little edit love with the planet over recent days. Head on over to the excellent AOR Disco site to grab a superb, Greg Wilson approved and exclusive to AOR rework of The Beatles 'Get Back' by Bonar. Furthermore I'm rather chuffed to be able to let you have a copy of his solid re-cut of Cymande's 'Brothers on the Slide'; another classic getting rinsed just right for current dancefloors. I've no idea if the above mentioned edit's will hit the stores in the form of vinyl or downloads anytime soon, if ever, and I'm guessing they were made very much for his dj'ing purposes. All that said, just grab this..

no guestlist pt 2
I've a bunch of mixes coming up - been a very slow year on that front, I've been all over the place to be honest. Anyway, here is the second part of a 2 hr mix i did for a Japanese net radio station C-Les on a show called 'Back In My Roots' (check it, always quality); it's a mellow sort of affair (the mix not the radio show), for afternoons or sundays or if you're a slo mo freak, anytime. It's an hours worth of eclectic bits; Disco, Afro, House, Other... hmmm I never made a note of the track list, so if you desperately need to know a track ask me and I shall endeavor to let you know who it's by. Expect a full on Disco mix anytime in the next five years up next and in the meantime dig this perhaps?

chime edit
Adrian Touchsoul dropped me a note and a link to his edit of the bellow Chime track when he saw the post. He's done a great job removing the vocal (which may please some), and honing in on those delicious spacey parts. Very nice, thanks Adrian. Drop in on Touchsoul at his SoundCloud page to check some of the other things he's been up to...

chime
Back in 1982 a group called Chime released a great album simply called 'Disco' on the Czech label Supraphon (who it seems dealt mostly in classical trade) ; it's packed with seriously cheesy moments but it contains a number of tracks that could happily work with a little make over. My favourite of the lot is the second track on the album, called 'Right Again'; it pulls a few original moves but fits very nicely into the Space Disco end of things. The vocal is R'nB schmaltz no doubt, but it definitely grew on me, in fact I've fallen head over heels for it...

kdd mix
Daniel Savio aka KoolDjDust has a new mix out on the interweb. You can get it here. Here's the deal; if you know Dust's work and you haven't wrapped your ears around his 'KDD Mix' yet then you've already clicked the link to grab it, if you don't know the man then I suggest doing a google search, or even search this blog to find out more about him and why you should have already clicked the link. There's no track listing, there seldom are with his mixes, but to be sure, this is an amazing trip through some truly delicious lesser known Disco delights, a touch of interstellar Afro and a slice of Cosmo quality. It's wonderfully put together too and is simply unmissable.
